Also known as the Barbados cherry, the West Indian cherry belongs to the family Malpighiaceae. It is native to South America, southern Mexico, and Puerto Rico. Bioflavonoids are the major active components present in this cherry. This cherry is very nutritive, it is a rich source of pectin, vitamin-like vitamin C, ,carotenoid, thiamin, riboflavin, niacin, and minerals like iron, calcium, and phosphorus.
